Bouclay doesn’t process payments itself. You connect the account you already have with a payment gateway, and Bouclay uses your keys to save cards, charge them, and refund. The money settles straight into your gateway account.

Supported gateways

These are the currencies Bouclay supports for each gateway. Which ones your own account can actually take depends on your agreement with the gateway, so check with them.

Connect

1

Open the gateway

In the dashboard, open Developers → Payment gateways and pick your gateway.
2

Paste your test keys

Copy the API keys from your gateway’s dashboard. Start with test keys, so you can try everything without real money.
3

Set up the inbound webhook

The gateway page shows an Inbound webhook URL. Paste it into your gateway’s dashboard, where it asks for a webhook or callback URL. If the gateway gives you a webhook signing secret, paste it back into Bouclay. This is how your gateway tells Bouclay that a payment went through.
4

Connect your live account

When you are ready for real payments, choose Connect live account and repeat with your live keys and live webhook settings. See Going live.
Bouclay encrypts your gateway keys and only uses them to act for you.

Using more than one gateway

Early access. Write to hello@bouclay.com to turn on Paystack, Flutterwave, Nomba or routing between gateways.
You can connect several gateways and choose which collects what:
  • The order of the list is the routing. The first gateway is your primary; the others are backups, tried in order for each new payment.
  • A currency can have its own order. For example, prefer Paystack for GHS and Bachs for everything else.
  • Pause one currency on one gateway. If a gateway’s KES payments start failing, pause KES on it. New KES payments go to your next gateway, while its NGN and other currencies keep running.
A saved card always charges through the gateway that saved it, because the gateway’s card token only works there. So routing decides where new cards and one-off payments go; renewals on a saved card stay on its gateway.
